Bamboozle & GoogaMooga
We had the most incredible weekend… I can’t even put into complete words how much fun we had.
Saturday morning we grabbed porkroll, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches at Luca Brasi’s and then we hit the road for Asbury Park. Super glad we hopped on back roads and parked away from the crowd… nothing beats no traffic and free parking! Jimmy Eat World, Close Your Eyes, The Good Robot, Motion City Soundtrack, All American Rejects, Iggy Azalia, Action Bronson, Hot Water Music, The Promise Ring, Foo Fighters… we saw so many wonderful performances.
We also got to hang out with Evan at the American Rag tent for awhile and I forever thank him and Tim for giving me a VIP pass so I could use a real bathroom. Also, seeing Foo play with the waves crashing in to our right and the sun setting to our left was stunning.
Sunday we made our way into Brooklyn for GoogaMooga. Apparently Saturdays GM was a shitshow - terribly long lines, beer troubles, fried chicken fistfights and more. We were extremely happy that our Sunday adventure was nothing short than amazing! We arrived around noon and immediately hit up Frankies 457 Spuntino for some polenta with sausage and peppers. No line.
We washed it down with a Rhubarb and Basil soda from Brooklyn Sodaworks. Next came the Dirty Duck Dog from Craft followed by the best Hot and Sour Pickle from Eat Me Sweetly, washed down with their spicy brine. Holy shit it was mind-blowingly good. We enjoyed that in the shade with some maple porter and befriended fellow GoogaMooga’ers.
We also had Bromberg Bro’s blue ribbon fried chicken… the honey drizzled over the top was perfect. The Hamageddon section was insane. So much meat. Yes. This steam punk piggy slow roasted some sucklers while shooting flames out the front and back. Epic!
Porchetta’s porchetta sandwich filled our needs while we waited for Peelander-Z to take the stage. Most fun show I have ever been to, hands down.
It wasn’t long until I ran into some media friends, was handed an ExtraMooga wristband for free and Billy and I were lounging in the ExtraMooga shade, drinking free beers and eating free burgers from Unami Burger while staring at the giant steer Pat LaFrieda slow roasted for 32 hours.
Not that we didn’t feel fancy enough, we ultimately ended up at Marcus Samuelsson’s Harlem Renaissance party at The Boathouse before finding the carousel tent where they were hosting a speed wine tasting event featuring wines from Spain, Greece, France, Italy, USA and more. It was a very dangerous place for us to be so we drank fast and left. Whoops!
Before we got back to the main ExtraMooga area, we stopped by the stage to listen in on some of the Q&A with Anthony Bourdain! We’re not super huge fans of his but it was still very cool seeing him in person and having this opportunity.
Before heading back out into the main area to see Hall & Oates, we ran into Kristen Schaal! Our little banter back and forth was hilarious and I actually got her to laugh. She’s super sweet in person.
Overall it was one of the most fun weekends ever! So many new experiences we shared together, so much good food and drinks, hilarious conversations, awesome music and just… it was a perfect weekend. I’m so lucky to have this wonderful man in my life to share it all with.
