Sometimes I forget that I get to walk through one of the most incredible cities in the world every day. I remember being seven and wanting to live here so badly. Then again when i had my internship with Ben Folds when I was in high school and I’d spend weeks of the summer with my brothers old girlfriend (and was here during the blackout).
Now here I am. And have been for a few years. And sometimes, while I’m walking through the city, I’m reminded of how insane it is that I’ve actually made it and am no longer ‘just getting by’ but that I am living well in this magical fucking place that I get to call home. That people dream of seeing and some never do.
And tomorrow I’ll probably get tired of it again. That’s when you know you love New York City. When you love it so much that you do your best to ignore all the little things about it that drive you fucking insane.
I truly believe that you can’t fully love it until you’ve fully lived it.
Since we’re on the top floor of the building, sometimes they open the door to the roof. So pretty. Two super historic skyscrapers… Flatiron building (nyc’s first skyscraper) and the Empire State Building

This is starting right now… and you’ll be able to see me and Valcakes in the 1st/2nd row because I had an invite +1 months ago to the private taping!
I’m so excited to experience it all again. I hope they didn’t edit out my mini convo with Ben during the show.
EDIT: I saw us! I saw us! And they showed my face during Transatlanticism! I wish they played the encore though, with “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” …but my god that was such a good show to relive just now.
Walk down 20th from Broadway to 5th… that tiny little stretch of street. I decided to make my last errand stop be Beecher’s to steal some of their cheese curd samples to have with my lunch. Yes, I steal cheese samples.
I’m almost at the corner to cross the street to my office and I hear “MISS! WAIT!! EXCUSE ME!! MISS!” and I automatically start checking my pockets and bags in a panic, thinking I dropped something important.
This young man came running up to me with the cheesiest smile on his face, holding part of his sandwich.
“I saw you walk by the cafe and I had to say hi, what’s your name”
First thought: Wow, people actually do this. Second thought: Uggghh I just want to go back to the office and eat my cheese in peace.
“…oh I’m Annmarie… and I’m taken.. and I have to go back to work but enjoy what’s left of that sandwich…”
And I continued walking, eating my stolen cheese curds… leaving the man with his sandwich and newly crushed spirit.
I think he just wanted in on the cheese curds. They’re really good.
It’s 59 degrees outside. The sun is shining. This is not a complaint.
In Forbes magazine’s America’s Top 10 Public Transportation Cities.
NYC was ranked #2. Jersey City, Guttenberg, West New York and Union City all made the top 10 list.
So proud to be a Hobokener. We’re kind of a big deal.
Does anyone else in NYC remember Around The Clock Diner that used to be on Stuyvesant St. in the East Village? Awhile back they boarded it up with a sign reading they were closed for renovations and would be re-opening in a few weeks… it’s been over a year and some other restaurant now claims that location.
I just thought about that today. I really enjoyed their Hecht Park sandwich, especially at 3am after stumbling through those doors. Sad to know it’s forever closed.
